In 1967, the Beatles produced their movie made for TV exclusively. It was named “Magical Mystery Tour”. The film is an interesting old little movie edited and directed by the band.
The movie was basically about the boys riding out around the country on a magical mystery tour bus with a bunch of characters. They just filmed whatever random adventures they got into while traveling across the country. The movie also featured sketches written by the band.
The film was a big flop. Five days before the Magical Mystery Tour started, the Beatles had their yearly holiday party, but this time with a twist. John Lennon and the boys decided to hold the Magical Mystery Tour party instead of their annual holiday party.
The party
The Beatles, their wives, the staff, many other friends, and family members attended the party.
It was more of a costume party or fancy dress party. The costumes that Beatles and their better half wore were quite fascinating. John Lennon was looking like a fifties-type rocker, wearing a leather jacket and had greased-up hair. His then-wife, Cynthia, was dressed as a Victorian lady.
Paul was the pearly king, and Jane Asher was dressed as the pearly queen. Ringo was dressed as a regency chap, and his wife, Maureen, was dressed as an Indian maiden. Geroge was all dressed up as a dashing swashbuckler.
And last but not the least- Geroge’s wife, Pattie, was dressed as an eastern princess.
Everybody was enjoying a pleasant time together. But Lennon was drinking heavingly.
Pattie Harrison was also invited to the party. She was an ex-model and also famously known as the inspiration for Eric Clapton’s Layla song. She was also acknowledged as the most beautiful of all Beatles wives. She like all the other women went all out and was dressed up in a super sexy outfit, and Lennon’s eyes were on her all the time
People at the party say that John was flirting, ogling and leering with Pattie from the word go, and other Beatles members didn’t like it, specially Geroge and Cynthia. This was a bit embarrassing.
Another attendee at the party was the Lulu, a 19-year-old singer-actor. Lulu had recently become famous thanks to her movie” To Sir”, with love, and she had a hit single with the same title. She was Beatle’s friend and was dressed up as a Shirley Temple-type little girl, wearing a curly blonde wig.
She watched John ignore his wife and drool over Pattie for hours, and she finally lost her calm. As John was sitting, Lulu stood over him and scolded him, right in front of everyone. Quite surprisingly, Lennon, who feared nobody, just sat there and let Lulu publicly scold him for ignoring his wife.
John reportedly just sat there quietly, with his head down. He was like a little boy who was being scolded by his mom. But unfortunately, there are no photos of this surreal incident. Well, we wished if someone could have captured that surreal moment, it would have been so incredible, LOL!
